The first sign of gingival recession is usually the sensitivity patients feel in their teeth. Apart from this the other symptoms are as followed;
– Itching in their gums and a feeling of repletion in which periodontally patients feel
– Discoloration (usually redness around the soft tissues)
– Spontaneous bleeding
– Bleeding when brushing or eating hard foods are the initial symptoms of gingival recession When gingival recession is not treated, these symptoms turn into more aggravating conditions such as:
– Bad breath
– Pain whilst chewing
– New gaps developing in between teeth
– Recession in gums that make teeth appear longer compared to normal teeth sizes
Systemic diseases such as diabetes are genetic predisposition, aging, hormonal changes, steeth clencthing/bruxism are also among the risk factors.
